I certainly am to my kids….
The nice people at Alpkit have given me a Sonder Camino gravel bike for me to explore all the off-road trails here and create rideable gravel routes in the Peloponnese.
For the non-cyclists, a gravel bike looks like a road bike but it has the wider wheels and disc brakes of a mountain bike – meaning you can ride at a decent speed on the road but just pop off it onto trails whenever you wish. In many places that means doubling the amount of routes you can ride. Nice.
But first I had to get it to Breakaway Greece A delayed flight to Greece, followed by the train to Corinth, on which I put the bike together, meant that I started my 55km ride here, as soon as the train arrived - 10pm last night
Loved it though, it’s hot, so we don’t do guest rides at this time of year, but it was a full moon and the night air was cool, so being off-road for some of the ride meant I saw more wildlife than I have before here.
Hard going though, as I wasn't carrying the traditional lightweight camping gear of a bike-packer but the laptop, books and clothes of someone heading for a summer in Greece.
Now though, time to take it exploring and have some fun!
